Match Report

The middle weekend of the school holidays can always be a challenge for fielding teams. Despite having a few players away, we still had reserves, which was a good place to be. Whilst our opponents sat well below us on points on the competition table, you can never treat any team lightly, which was proven today.

The match was evenly placed in the first quarter – although most of the ball was being played in the opposition half, we were unable to convert scoring opportunities into goals. However, our build up in play was nice to watch – playing to feet with players moving into space, and not panicking in defence were some of the highlights.

At times we were guilty of trying to dribble the ball into the goals, rather than taking a well-weighted shot and looking for it to skid off a dewy Sunday morning surface. We showed that when we did take a shot from well outside the area, we had the ability to score.

Whilst we could have made this a more one-sided affair, we had to work hard to achieve the result we did – if we can learn from this, we will perform more strongly against the top ranked teams.

Special thanks for Emika for filling in for us, who also scored a well deserved goal.
